Since January, 43,000 railway employees with direct customer contact have been able to order new workwear. The corporate collection, which will consist of around 80 different garments and include dresses, jeans and polo shirts for the very first time, has already gone into production. The current predominantly blue collection has been in use for 17 years. Deutsche Bahn estimates that it will require around 900,000 new garments in total which will be worn from 1st August 2020 by staff who serve trains, buses, railway stations and travel centres. In future, staff will be able to combine trousers, skirts, dresses, jackets, waistcoats, quilted jackets and accessories such as ties, scarves and hats as they wish.

Designed by Guido Maria Kretschmer

Star designer Guido Maria Kretschmer designed the new corporate clothing in close collaboration with German railway staff. Three years have passed between the initial idea and the product launch. Once the development phase was over, 250 people from different divisions of the company tested the efficacy and comfort of the garments over a period of more than eight months. Everybody was invited to participate actively in the development process right from the very outset so that they could voice their wishes and expectations. To make sure that the new corporate clothing is always a perfect fit, individual garments will be available in up to 51 different sizes: from size 32 (XXS) to size 62 (5XL) and also in short, long or normal fittings.

Burgundy and blue will be the dominant colours in the collection. The dark red is a warm classic tone that was deliberately added to Deutsche Bahn’s colour range as it is easier to combine with other colours than the “traffic red” (RAL 3020) that the company currently uses. The shade of blue has not been changed.

Sustainable production recognized by “Green Button”

Sustainability will also play an important role in the product launch. A large proportion of the garments bear the label MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX ® which indicates that they have been tested for harmful substances and also stands for environment-friendly and socially fair production. The entire production process, from the manufacture of the yarn right through to ready-to-wear production, has been closely supervised and audited. Once completed, the finished fabric is also checked again for harmful substances. This reflects Deutsche Bahn’s high aspirations regarding sustainable production. MADE IN GREEN is also recognised as “Green Button’s” sustainability seal. In addition, the quality of workmanship is constantly monitored throughout production in cooperation with Hohenstein to ensure that the clothing lives up to the exacting demands of everyday work.
